Woodland Walk

.............

This is an easy getaway from the city streets and offers a nice walk along a rice paddy, followed by a trail across the fields into a lovely small wooded hill. It's impossible to get lost. Start on the cement road next to the Boozefighters Clubhouse and walk until you see a narrow but good path that crosses the rice paddy. Take this path and as soon as you cross the field look for a path that takes off on the left. Follow this path through the woods until it eventually leads back on to the rice fields. Turn around and retrace your steps. There are a fair number of lively squirrels in the woods. Look for their tufted ears and dark coats.

The woodland portion of this walk skirts a military training area that is on top of the small hill. The woodland path goes around the bottom of the hill and is outside the training area. If you see the sign in the picture above, you have continued beyond the trail turnoff. Return the way you came and look for a path that begins right at the edge of the forest where the rice paddy meets the hill.

Look for the cute tufted-ear squirrels found in these woods.
